The largest embassy in the world just opened in Baghdad, Iraq. And guess who it belongs to? That’s right, Constant Readers, America. Who else would foot the bill for a billion-dollar construction project which started as far back as 2005. And who knows how much money has been funneled into that facility (which is equivalent in size to the Vatican City!) since then.
I mean, does one ambassador really need a facility that is 20 times bigger than the UN complex in NYC, a 20-building complex with over a thousand employees? Don’t get me wrong, I understand the importance of security, especially with America turning over control of the Green Zone to Iraq, but this is a sizable fortress manned by a sizeable contingent of personnel – there’s something not quite right about this, but no one’s questioning it!
